Building Inspections

Responsibilities

The building inspector completes all required inspections as they are called into our office. It is the responsibility of the contractor to call in for all inspections on the construction job that they are overseeing.

Jurisdiction

The Murray County Building Inspection Department does all permitting and inspections for unincorporated Murray County and the City of Eton.

We recognize that safe buildings are an integral part of maintaining a safe and economically stable community. Our business philosophy is to perform mandatory inspections along with the diligent enforcement of building codes in an atmosphere of cooperation and open communication. This website is intended to promote that communication and make our services more accessible.

Please Note: In accordance with the Georgia International Residential Building Code under Chapter 1, Section R101.3, "it is the intent that the purpose of this code is to establish minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare through affordability, structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, light and ventilation, energy conservation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations."

This section does not include storage buildings, campers, or recreational vehicles, thus these structures should not be used as permanent dwellings because they are not designed and manufactured as a dwelling unit.
