From the Assessors Office: Notice to Murray County Property Owners For the 2018 Tax Year

The Murray County Assessors Office is currently conducting revaluations again this year on residential building and land as well as value updates on small-tract and large-tract rural land parcels for the 2018 tax year. Based on this revaluation process, many taxpayers will see an increase on their 2018 assessment notice.

The increases are being driven by continually increasing higher sale prices occurring in the marketplace. These significant changes in market prices have resulted in the current values on record to again this year not meet limits set by Georgia law. The Assessors Office is required to maintain property values within the prescribed range of the current market value for tax purposes. Since current values are out of these ranges again, we are required by law to conduct a revaluation of all residential property, including buildings, small and large tract rural land.

The taxpayers’ Annual Notice of Assessments are scheduled to be mailed in June. When you receive the notice, the property owner may apply, at the Assessors Office, for any qualifying exemptions, such as homestead or floating homestead freeze exemption or elderly exemptions or a conservation use covenant. You have a 45 day time frame from the date of the assessment notice to complete the application for this exemption, provided you qualify, to apply to the current 2018 tax year. In addition to these, you may be eligible for other exemptions.
